FAQ's

Do we give a presentation in the end? Okay, no one has ever asked this question, but all work culminates with “presentations” on Saturday night, followed by going out as a group. This is really the highlight of the weekend when guys put in the work.

Where: Eternal Rock Lutheran Church, 2 Phelps Street, Castle Rock, CO, 80104

Who: New missionaries and their spouse (I can't emphasize enough the importance of making it work for both of you to come).

Cost: BHM covers registration for Subsidized WELS Missionaries. Missions are responsible for travel, rental car, hotel and meals. Figure on $1000-$1500 (recommended to fly into Denver and stay at the Holiday Inn or Best Western in Castle Rock).  (If your are not a mission church, the cost is $250 to cover materials, snacks, etc. Please note, we are happy to wave the fee if this a challenge for your congregation).

Can I stay with a friend or family in the area? This is not recommended. The weekend is fairly exhausting mentally. The time to brainstorm with spouse without distraction is not just preferable, but necessary.

Who Leads? Pastor Jared Oldenburg, a two-time church planter (outside of Seattle and south of Denver).

Will I get time to talk through my situation? During the weekend, we will look for windows to just talk individually to discuss issues/thoughts directly related to your specific church/mission.

Can I bring my kids? Bringing children, with the exception of nursing infants, is not recommended. The whole idea of the weekend is to remove yourself from typical responsibilities (work, social, family) so that you can brainstorm/think/dream about your mission.

How many people have gone through the Church Planter Weekend? To date, over 30 missionaries have participated in the weekend.

Do you have reading suggestions before I come?  I am always working through a few books, some are good and some are not so great. For our situations, I would recommend reading the following before you come.

Feedback for the coaching program

"Everything is going great with my coach and the program in general. Videos are a great guide to conversation. We don't focus on answering all the questions together. We focus instead on the topics and questions that specifically are pertaining to my mission. I enjoy a sound-board that has gone through a lot of the same stuff that I have. It helps to have someone to vent to but also ask serious mission questions for guidance. Great program overall!" -planter

"[My Coach] has been extremely helpful for me. I feel like I've been given good direction and advice." -planter

"[The Mission Milestones Checklist]  has been the most beneficial part in my opinion. Picking three things a week off of that list then having my coach keep me accountable to them helps me think a month ahead while still only focusing on three big things per week." -planter
